If you have a smart, you can use a scanner like the above if your car engine management light comes on.

You need an OBDII compatible scanner that supports KWP2000 and CAN. Read more for the trouble codes.

Articles - Hints and Tips

I've noticed quite a few questions coming in through what people are searching for on various search engines. As you've come to my site via these I can see what you've searched for to get to my site, so I thought I'd answer a few questions that I've seen.

Are smart car engines reliable?

The smart fortwo original engines (600cc) seem to have a life of around 60,000 miles, the 700cc are usually more reliable, and 999cc engines are more reliable still (made by mitsubishi). The forfour has a very reliable engine. As with all engines, your mileage may vary depending if you service your car on time (or before), and how you drive, and the length of your journeys.

Do smart cars have parcel shelves?

They don't as standard. However some higher end models such as Passion and Brabus do have them fitted as standard.

How does a smart car work?

The same as every other car, it's just the engines are small, the cars are light, so they have good MPG.

Smart cars economical?

It depends how you drive it. But yes, the older cars (600cc, 700cc and 800cc diesel) are very economical. The new 999cc engines however do not seem to be as economical as the 1st generation smarts (pre sept-07).

Smart for two sump plug?

Smart didn't deem a sump plug a neccessity, however you can buy one from some smart retailers.

What can cause heavy steering?

Usually on a smart car it's the universal joints in the steering column, these can be freed up using plusgas and kept in check with some motorcycle bike chain grease.

What does the orange engine light on a smart car fortwo car mean?

The engine check light means the ECU has found an error with one of the several sensors on the engine, you need to get your car plugged into an OBD II reader to get the engine fault codes to find out what to check.

What oil do i need to put into a smart car?

0w40, 5w40 or 10w40 depending on your climate (the colder it is, the closer to 0 you need) as long as you use fully synthetic.

Where can i buy smart car engine oil products from?

From your local motor factors.

Hope these help you!

The Namir – meaning 'tiger' - is a joint development between Frazer-Nash Research and Giugiaro and uses a 814cc "endothermic" rotary engine to charge a 400V 108-cell lithium-ion battery pack that is, in turn, hooked up to four electric motors – two per axle - that together generate 362bhp (270kW).

Get a smart fortwo! These cars get 33mpg city and 41 mpg highway.
They use 9. 5 barrels of petroleum a year and only emit 5.1 tons of CO2.

Cheap MOTs
Articles - Guides
Written by Gavin Chapman
Wednesday, 01 October 2008

This is one that came to me in an email from MoneySavingExpert. If your car is due for an MOT, and you want to save money, go to a council run MOT centre!

For cars with faults the MOT test fee is usually dwarfed by repair costs. While a cheap "MOTs just £20" promotion sounds good, it's ruined for those shelling out £1,500 to get problems fixed. Worse still, a few dodgy garages fail components that'd pass elsewhere to generate business.

The key is using hidden local council MOT centres, which don't do repairs, so there's no vested interest to fail you. This is a step by step cheap MOT guide including a full council tst center listing.
